ProScribe

Now only 30 pounds when licenced for private use!
ProScribe is a CDROM containing a huge collection of Celtic clip-art images and fonts, built up over many years by author and artist Andy Sloss. The package is suitable for both the professional designer and the enthusiastic hobbyist, providing all the resources you need to create authentic-looking celtic manuscripts and graphic designs. (Please see pricing below for details of commercial licensing.)

ProScribe is compatible with Macintosh and PC/Windows computers. Please note that Macintosh users must install the ISO9600 Extension (supplied with the Macintosh Operating System) to use ProScribe.

The material included on ProScribe can be divided into four broad categories: Clip-Art, Illuminated Capitals, Script Fonts, and Knotwork and Key-Pattern Fonts. The Script Fonts are also available on a separate Fonts Disc package, and are illustrated on a different page. The other components are listed below.

Clip-art

The majority of the CDROM is taken up by a collection of over 1200 different clip-art images, including a huge range of knotwork borders, decorative designs and backgrounds. The decorations used on these pages illustrate a tiny sample of the range of designs and graphic components on the CDROM.

Most of the images are supplied in both bitmap (TIF) and vector (EPS) formats, and in both colour and monochrome, bringing the total number of clip-art image files to over 5000. With appropriate graphics programs (such as CorelDRAW!, Adobe Illustrator, or Photoshop), you can edit or rescale the images without loss of quality, and you can import them directly into DTP or word-processor documents. The TIF images are rendered at 300dpi, so that they are suitable for use in printing as well as in screen design.

Illuminated Letters

The ProScribe CDROM contains two complete alphabets of illuminated capitals, the traditional trademark of the celtic scribe. You can use these together with the script fonts (see below) to create imitations of traditional celtic manuscript pages, using just an ordinary word-processor or desktop publishing program.

Knotwork and Key-Pattern Fonts

In the course of many years studying celtic art, Andy Sloss has developed a remarkable system for constructing celtic knotwork and key-pattern designs, using specially designed computer fonts which are included on the ProScribe CDROM. The system is also explained in Andy's book, "How to Draw Celtic Knotwork" , which is also available from Celtic Creative. In the knotwork and key-pattern fonts, each letter is a "segment", and the segments can be joined together in an almost infinite range of combinations to create original knotwork and key-pattern designs. Full instructions on how to use the special fonts are provided in the ProScribe manual.

Price and Licence Information:

The standard ProScribe package does NOT license the purchaser to use the material on the CDROM for publications, or for commercial purposes - it is a single-user licence, which allows the software to be used on one machine at a time only, and prohibits using of the ProScribe material for publication or commercial gain. A licence to use the ProScribe material commercially can be purchased at an additional cost, and we also supply an Education Site-Licence for institutions wishing to make the CDROM available on a school or college network.
